The Lightning's Sweet Secret
Lila loved her grandmother's straw hat more than anything in the world. It was yellow and wide-brimmed, with a ribbon that fluttered like butterfly wings. Every morning, she would put it on and go to the papaya tree in their garden to check if the fruit was ripe.
One hot afternoon, as Lila sat beneath the papaya tree, she noticed something strange. Lightning was dancing across the sky—even though there wasn't a cloud in sight!
"That's funny," she said, shielding her eyes with her hat. "Lightning only comes with storms."
But then she saw it: a tiny lightning bolt, no bigger than a firefly, zipping around the papaya tree. It seemed to be looking for something.
"What are you searching for?" Lila asked gently.
The little lightning bolt zipped closer and spoke in a crackly voice, "I'm lost! I fell from my cloud during a storm, and I can't find my way home. The sun is too bright for me."
Lila thought for a moment. "You need shade! Follow me."
She started running toward the forest, with her hat shielding the little lightning bolt. They ran past flowers and streams, the lightning bolt glowing softly beside her.
When they reached the darkest part of the forest, Lila picked a ripe papaya from a tree. "Here, eat this. It will give you energy for your journey."
The lightning nibbled the sweet papaya and glowed brighter! "Thank you, Lila! Now I can make a path home!"
The little lightning shot up into the sky, creating a sparkling path all the way back to its cloud. As a thank you, the lightning bolt sent down a gentle shower that made all the papaya trees in Lila's garden bloom with golden fruit.
Lila touched her hat and smiled. Sometimes, the smallest creatures need the biggest help, and kindness can create magic brighter than lightning.
