The Lightning's Secret Gift

Emma pressed her nose against the cold glass, watching the storm dance across the sky. The lightning flashed brilliant white, painting her room in momentary magic. She loved storms - they made everything feel possible, especially when she was feeling lonely.

Suddenly, a strange radiance burst through the window. Emma gasped as a tiny creature tumbled from the windowsill, no bigger than her hand. Its scales glowed with the same light as the lightning, and its wings shimmered like captured rainbows.

"You're not like the others," the creature whispered, voice like silver bells. "Most people never notice me during the storm."

Emma blinked in wonder. "I've always seen you darting between raindrops. I thought I was imagining it."

The creature grinned. "I'm Bolt, a storm sprite. I spy on children during storms, looking for ones who can see the magic hidden in plain sight."

"You're a spy?" Emma asked, eyes wide with fascination.

"A friendly spy," Bolt explained, hovering closer. "I look for hearts full of wonder. And yours, Emma, is the most wonderful I've found in all my stormy adventures."

Emma's heart soared. All her life, she'd felt different - like she saw things others missed. Now she knew why.

"I've been so lonely," she admitted softly. "Nobody understands how I see magic everywhere."

Bolt drifted closer and landed gently on her palm. "That's because you're special. And now you have a friend who understands."

Emma felt warmth spreading through her fingers, like holding a tiny star. "Will you come back?"

"Every storm," Bolt promised. "But the real magic isn't in my visits. It's in how you see the world. Never stop looking for wonder, Emma."

As the storm faded, Emma watched Bolt disappear into the night. She smiled, knowing she'd never be truly alone again. Sometimes, the best gifts arrive with the lightning - you just have to be brave enough to see them.
