The Lightning's Secret Gift
Barnaby was a small golden dog with floppy ears and a very big problem. He was terrified of storms. Every time dark clouds gathered, he would hide under the porch, trembling.
Luna was the neighborhood cat — sleek, silver, and brave. She sat on the fence, watching Barnaby with curious green eyes.
"Why do you hide?" Luna asked one afternoon as thunder rumbled in the distance.
"The lightning," Barnaby whispered, his tail tucked tight. "It's too bright and too loud. It feels like the sky is breaking apart."
Luna's whiskers twitched. "But lightning is magic. Haven't you seen what it does?"
Barnaby shook his head vigorously.
"Come with me tonight," Luna said mysteriously. "I'll show you its secret."
That evening, a storm rolled in. Barnaby wanted to hide, but Luna was waiting at the fence. Together, they watched as lightning flashed across the purple sky.
"Watch the ground," Luna whispered.
Barnaby looked. Where lightning had struck, tiny glowing flowers were blooming — blue and silver, sparkling like stars.
"Lightning carries star seeds from space," Luna explained. "When it touches earth, it plants them. These flowers only bloom for one hour, then they turn into wishes that float back to the stars."
Barnaby's eyes widened. All this time, he'd been afraid of something wonderful.
"Do you want to help?" Luna asked.
Barnaby nodded, his fear forgotten. As the storm continued, the dog and cat worked together — Luna climbed trees to collect the highest glowing blooms, while Barnaby used his soft paws to gently gather the ones near the ground.
By midnight, they had collected dozens of star flowers. Luna showed Barnaby how to release them, and together they watched the wishes drift upward, joining the constellations.
"Thank you," Barnaby said, his golden coat shimmering in the moonlight.
"We make a good team," Luna purred.
From that night on, Barnaby never feared lightning again. He and Luna became best friends, and every storm brought them together for another magical adventure.
