The Lightning's Secret Gift
Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every summer day, she'd rush to the sparkling blue water, her toes wiggling with excitement as they touched the cool waves. But today was different. The sky had turned dark and purple, and far away, lightning danced like glowing ribbons across the clouds.
"Swimming now might not be safe," her grandmother had warned, handing her a bright orange vitamin tablet. "Take this and wait for the storm to pass."
Lily sighed. She swallowed the little tablet and sat on the sand, watching the lightning flash closer and closer. But then she saw something amazing—a tiny glowing creature peeking from beneath the waves!
"Hello!" called the creature, who looked like a seahorse but shimmered with rainbow colors. "I'm Splash! Are you a friend?"
"I'm Lily!" she whispered, leaning closer. "But you shouldn't be here. The lightning is coming!"
Splash giggled, bubbles floating upward. "Oh, the lightning is just the ocean's friend! Watch this!"
As a bolt of lightning struck the water far away, Splash did something incredible. The little seahorse began to glow even brighter, and suddenly Lily could see hundreds of tiny lights beneath the waves—like stars had fallen into the sea!
"Every lightning bolt gives us special light," Splash explained. "We use it to help fish find their way home in dark waters. It's our job, and it's beautiful!"
Lily watched in wonder. The scary lightning wasn't scary at all—it was helping her new friend! She realized that even things that seem frightening might have a special purpose she couldn't see at first.
"Will you be my friend forever?" Splash asked.
"Always," Lily promised.
And every storm after that, Lily would sit by the water, watching the lightning and knowing her friend was down below, turning scary flashes into guiding lights for all the sea creatures who needed help finding their way home.
Sometimes the best discoveries come from the most surprising places—even in the middle of a storm.
