The Lightning's Secret Game
Ten-year-old Maya loved climbing the old oak tree in her backyard. One rainy afternoon, she spotted something strange—a thick orange cable wrapped around the highest branch, gleaming like a sunset beam against the gray sky.
Maya pulled herself closer and discovered the cable connected to something magical: a floating baseball diamond made of clouds, high above the neighborhood. Lightning bolts crackled around the infield, where tiny lightning spirits played the most energetic game Maya had ever seen.
"Hey!" called a small boy her age, swinging from the orange cable like a monkey. It was Leo from next door. "Found this yesterday. Want to play?"
Maya's eyes widened. "How?"
"The lightning spirits let us join if we're brave enough!" Leo grinned. "Hold the cable during the next lightning strike."
Maya hesitated. She'd always been afraid of storms. But Leo's excited smile made her stomach flutter with adventure.
CRACK! A purple lightning bolt struck nearby. Maya gripped the orange cable. Suddenly, warmth flooded her hands, and she felt weightless. She and Leo soared upward, landing on the cloud diamond.
The lightning spirits cheered! They were tiny beings made of crackling energy, wearing jerseys made of storm clouds. Their baseball was a glowing sphere that zapped and popped.
"You're up!" a spirit squeaked, tossing Maya a bat made of condensed lightning.
Maya swung. WHAM! The ball shot through the sky like a shooting star, leaving a trail of orange sparkles. The spirits went wild!
For hours, they played the most wonderful game. Maya forgot her fear of storms. She realized that lightning wasn't scary—it was full of magic and fun, especially when shared with friends.
As evening approached, the spirits thanked Maya and Leo with a gift: a small lightning bolt in a jar, glowing softly orange.
"Come back anytime!" they called.
Sliding down the cable, Maya and Leo landed safely in the oak tree. The storm had passed, leaving a rainbow stretching across the sky.
"Best adventure ever," Maya whispered, clutching her lightning jar.
Leo nodded. "Tomorrow?"
"Definitely."
And every time it rained after that, Maya didn't hide under her covers. She watched the lightning and smiled, knowing her magical friends were playing their secret game in the sky, waiting for her and Leo to join the fun.
