The Lightning's Orange Gift
Emma loved watching storms from her bedroom window. But tonight was different. A bright bolt of lightning flashed, and something tumbled into her garden — something glowing with a warm orange light.
She crept outside in her rain boots. There, beneath the old oak tree, sat a small creature with patchy fur and mismatched buttons for eyes. It looked like a toy someone had forgotten, but it was moving!
"Are you... a zombie?" Emma whispered, remembering the scary stories her older brother told.
The creature shook its head sadly. Its mouth opened, but no words came out — only a soft orange glow, like tiny stars dancing in the rain.
Emma knelt down. "You're not scary. You're just lost."
The creature's button eyes brightened. It reached out with a patchy hand and pointed at the sky, where another bolt of lightning cracked.
Then Emma understood. This wasn't a zombie at all. It was a Storm Sprites — a magical helper made from lightning and wishes, brought to life by someone's lonely thoughts.
"Someone made you because they were lonely," Emma said. "And now you need to find them."
The orange glow around the creature pulsed with agreement. Emma took its patchy hand. "Come with me. We'll search together."
All through the night, they walked through the village. The creature's orange light guided them through puddles and shadows, while lightning painted the sky in brilliant flashes.
Finally, they reached a small cottage where a little boy sat alone by his window, tears on his cheeks.
"You made him?" Emma asked the creature.
The orange glow flared with joy as it slipped through the window. The boy's eyes widened. His friend had returned.
Emma watched as the boy hugged his magical companion, his loneliness washed away like rain after a storm.
Walking home, Emma felt the lightning flash one last time — not as something frightening, but as a reminder that even in the darkest storms, magic can bring friends together.
