The Lightning's Goldfish Gift

Lily loved her backyard pool more than anything in the world. But during summer storms, she had to stay inside and watch the rain make little splashes where she usually swam.

One evening, as lightning cracked across the dark sky, Lily noticed something strange in the pool below. A single goldfish—that she'd never seen before—was swimming near the surface, glowing with a soft orange light that seemed to dance with each lightning flash above.

The goldfish swam right to the pool's edge where Lily's small hand rested against the glass door. To her amazement, the fish leaped out of the water and landed gently in her palm, where it transformed into a tiny golden creature with sparkling fins.

"I'm Finn," the goldfish said in a voice like bubbling water. "The lightning gave me magic for one hour. What's your wish?"

Lily couldn't believe it. A talking goldfish? Magic wishes? But she didn't wish for toys or candy. Instead, she said, "I wish my sick grandmother could feel better."

Finn's scales shimmered brighter than ever. "That's the kindest wish anyone has ever made," he said. "But magic works best when friendship helps it grow."

Finn explained that Lily needed to share her wish with three friends, and together they would make something magical happen. The next morning, Lily called her three best friends to the pool. There, shimmering in the sunlight, was a single golden scale left behind by Finn.

When each child touched the scale and wished for Lily's grandmother to feel better, the pool's water began to sparkle and glow. Later that day, Lily's mother called with wonderful news: Grandma was feeling much better, her sickness gone as if by magic.

From that day on, whenever lightning flashed during summer storms, Lily and her friends would run to the pool, hoping to see Finn's golden glow again. Sometimes they did, and sometimes they didn't—but they learned that the real magic was in wishing good things for others together.

And sometimes, if you look carefully during a storm, you might see a tiny orange flash in a swimming pool near you—Finn, still granting wishes to children whose hearts are full of kindness.
