The Lightning's Goldfish Game
Mia loved rainy afternoons. While other kids stayed inside, she would run to the backyard and watch the sky dance.
Today, the sky was putting on quite a show! Bolts of lightning cracked across the clouds like nature's own fireworks. Mia counted: one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three— BOOM!
Then she noticed something strange. Behind the old oak tree, the rain wasn't falling on the ground. It was falling into... a pool? But there was no pool there yesterday!
Mia crept closer. The shimmering blue water glowed softly. And there, swimming happily in the magical rain pool, was a tiny goldfish with scales like sunset oranges.
'Hello!' said the goldfish. 'I'm Finn! Would you like to play catch?' From nowhere, he produced a tiny baseball.
'A fish can't play baseball!' Mia giggled.
'Ah, but I'm no ordinary fish,' Finn winked. 'Watch this!'
He tossed the baseball up. A bolt of lightning zoomed down and— BAP!— struck the ball into a million sparkles that rained down like edible glitter.
'Taste it!' said Finn.
Mia caught a sparkle on her tongue. It tasted like cotton candy and sunshine!
'In my pool, every game of baseball becomes lightning treats,' Finn explained. 'But only for friends who aren't afraid of a little storm.'
Mia grinned. The lightning that used to scare her now seemed magical. She realized something important: sometimes the scariest things hide the most wonderful surprises—if you're brave enough to look.
'Teach me to catch lightning!' she said.
And that's how Mia became the only kid in the world who couldn't wait for the next thunderstorm. Because somewhere, in a secret glowing pool, a goldfish friend was waiting to play the most amazing game of baseball ever.
