The Lightning Runner's Secret
Max loved running. Every afternoon after school, he would lace up his red sneakers and race through the park, feeling the wind rush past his ears like a friendly whisper.
One stormy afternoon, while Max was running home, something incredible happened. A bolt of lightning struck an old telephone pole, and suddenly Max saw something glowing beside the fallen cable on the ground. It was a tiny creature, no bigger than his thumb, with wings that sparkled like actual lightning bolts!
"Help!" squeaked the little Lightning Sprite. "The cable broke, and I can't get my Vitamin Dews back to the Cloud Kingdom!"
"Vitamin Dews?" Max asked, crouching down.
"Yes! They're magical dewdrops that give children sweet dreams and happy thoughts. Without them, children will forget how to imagine wonderful things!"
Max knew he had to help. "What should I do?"
"You must run to the top of Lightning Hill before sunset!" the sprite explained. "Hold me close, and I'll guide you. The Vitamin Dews are stored in a special cloud there."
Max scooped up the Lightning Sprite and started running. He ran faster than he ever had before, past the playground, around the pond, and up the steep hill. His legs felt strong, and the sprite's glow lit his way through the gathering storm.
Just as the sun began to set, they reached the top of the hill. A fluffy cloud floated there, filled with shimmering droplets in every color of the rainbow. These were the Vitamin Dews!
"Quick!" said the sprite. "Fill this pouch!"
Max carefully gathered the magical droplets. As soon as the pouch was full, the sprite flitted happily around him. "Thank you! Because you helped, children everywhere will keep dreaming wonderful dreams. And you, Max – you'll always find extra speed when you run, because you have lightning in your heart now."
From that day on, Max was the fastest runner in school. But more importantly, he never forgot that sometimes the most magical adventures come from helping others, even when you're tired and the path seems hard.
And every night when children dreamed their wonderful dreams, somewhere high above, a Lightning Sprite smiled and remembered the boy who loved running.
