The Lightning Pyramid's Secret Friend
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic on rainy afternoons. The air smelled of old books and secrets. Today, something glimmered behind a stack of forgotten paintings—a small golden pyramid with symbols that seemed to dance when she looked at them.
As Lily touched it, CRACK! A bolt of blue lightning shot from the pyramid's tip, but it didn't hurt. It felt warm, like a hug. The pyramid's sides unfolded like flower petals, revealing a tiny figure inside.
Lily gasped. It looked like a zombie—green skin, stitches everywhere, one eye hanging loose. But instead of scary, it seemed... sad. Its one good eye blinked nervously.
"Please don't scream," it squeaked. "I'm Zimble. I've been sleeping in here for three hundred years."
Lily stayed very still. "You're not scary?"
"I tried to be scary once," Zimble said, picking at a loose stitch. "It didn't work. I'm better at being lonely."
Outside, thunder rumbled. Lightning flashed through the attic's window, reflecting off the pyramid's golden walls. In that moment, Lily saw Zimble clearly—really saw him. He was holding something tiny: a withered flower.
"Is that for someone?" Lily asked softly.
"My best friend," Zimble whispered. "Before the pyramid closed forever, she gave me this. She wasn't afraid of me. She said my stitches made me special, like patchwork quilts her grandmother made."
Lily felt something warm in her chest. "Will you show me where you lived?"
"The pyramid can show memories," Zimble said. "But only if we hold hands. Are you sure? I'm still a zombie."
Lily smiled and reached out. "You're Zimble. And you're my friend now."
Together they touched the pyramid. Lightning swirled around them like friendly fireflies. Suddenly the attic melted away, and they stood in a beautiful garden under a purple sky. Zimble was laughing with a girl who looked at him with so much kindness.
"She saw ME," Zimble said, his voice full of wonder. "Not what everyone expected. Just me."
Lily squeezed his hand. "I see you too."
That rainy afternoon, Lily learned that magic comes in surprising packages. Sometimes things that seem scary are just waiting for someone brave enough to look closer and see the friend underneath. The pyramid closed again, but Zimble didn't mind anymore. He had a new best friend, and every thunderstorm after that, Lily knew lightning wasn't just noise in the sky—it was the world's way of saying hello to its magical, misunderstood friends.
