The Lightning Pyramid Mystery
Max loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the old diamond near the woods. But today, the sky turned purple-gray, and storm clouds gathered like giant cotton balls.
Crash! Lightning flashed across the sky as Max packed up his baseball gear. Then he saw it—a strange pyramid structure behind the playground, glowing faintly in the gathering dusk. He'd never noticed it before.
Curious, Max crept closer. The pyramid was made of something that looked like golden glass, and symbols pulsed along its sides like tiny fireflies. Suddenly, a hand emerged from the ground nearby.
Max gasped and stepped back. But it wasn't scary at all. A small green figure pulled itself up—a zombie, but not the kind from movies. This one wore a baseball cap and carried a tiny bat!
"I'm Zee," the little zombie said with a crooked smile. "I've been waiting for someone who loves baseball as much as I do."
Zee explained that he'd been a baseball player long ago, cursed by a wizard to guard the pyramid's magic until someone worthy came along. The pyramid held the Lightning Diamond, a gem that could make the perfect baseball game last forever.
"But you need to prove your worth," Zee said. "Hit the ball I pitch, and the pyramid will open."
Max nodded, heart pounding. Zee wound up and threw a magical pitch that sparkled like lightning. Max swung his bat—CRACK! The ball flew straight and true, hitting a hidden switch on the pyramid.
The golden pyramid opened, revealing the Lightning Diamond inside. But Zee looked sad.
"What's wrong?" Max asked.
"I'm finally free," Zee said, his green skin turning normal, "but I have no one to play baseball with."
Max smiled. "That's easy. You can play on my team!"
And so Max and Zee became the best of friends, playing baseball under sunny skies and stormy ones alike. Max learned that sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the best friends, and that sharing what you love makes everything more magical.
The pyramid disappeared, but the magic remained—in every game they played together.
