The Lightning Pyramid
Maya loved sitting under the tall palm tree in her backyard. Its leaves swished in the warm breeze, like they were whispering secrets. Every day after school, she'd rest her back against the rough trunk and dream about adventures.
One afternoon, while she was eating lunch, a storm rolled in fast. Dark clouds covered the sun, and suddenly—FLASH! A bolt of lightning struck the beach right behind her house. Maya's heart thumped. She'd never seen lightning so close!
When the rain stopped, she ran to see what the lightning had hit. There, glowing in the wet sand, was something amazing—a golden pyramid no bigger than her shoebox, sparkling with tiny lights like captured stars.
'Hello?' she whispered. The pyramid pulsed warmly. 'I'm the Keeper of Dreams,' a voice sounded in her head. 'Touch your palm to me, and I'll show you wonders.'
Maya hesitated, then pressed her palm against the pyramid's smooth side. WHOOSH! Golden light swirled around her. When it faded, she wasn't on the beach anymore. She was swimming in the most beautiful ocean she'd ever seen! The water was purple and sparkly, filled with fish that smiled at her.
A friendly dolphin popped up beside her. 'You're the first human to visit in a hundred years! Want to race?' Maya laughed and swam faster than she ever had in her regular swimming lessons. She glided through coral reefs that looked like underwater castles.
But soon she felt tired. The dolphin nudged her gently. 'The pyramid will take you home. Remember—the bravest adventures begin with one small step into the unknown.'
Maya pressed her palm to the pyramid again, and WHOOSH—she was back on the beach, her toes in familiar sand. The golden pyramid sat there, still glowing.
'Will you take me back someday?' she whispered.
'Whenever you're brave enough,' the pyramid answered. 'True magic lives inside you, Maya. I just help you find it.'
That night, Maya fell asleep with the pyramid under her pillow, dreaming of purple oceans and swimming with friends she'd made in a world beyond her backyard palm tree. Some adventures, she learned, are closer than you think.
