The Lightning Pyramid
Lila hated her hair. It was enormous—a frizzy, wild brown cloud that poofed everywhere she went. Kids called her "Lion Lady" and laughed when the wind made her hair double in size.
One stormy afternoon, Lila hid in her grandmother's attic to escape the teasing. Rain drummed against the roof like a thousand tiny fingers. In the corner, something glinted beneath a dusty quilt—a perfect golden pyramid no bigger than her hand.
Lila picked it up. Lightning flashed outside, and suddenly the pyramid hummed against her palm. A circle of light appeared on its surface, widening like a pupil. Without thinking, Lila leaned forward and tumbled—head over heels—INSIDE the pyramid.
She wasn't falling. She was swimming through liquid starlight, weightless and warm. Her hair floated around her like a mermaid's seaweed crown, not frizzy at all but shimmering with tiny rainbows.
"You have lightning hair," said a small voice.
Lila spun around. A pyramid-shaped creature made of golden light hovered nearby, its edges crackling with tiny sparks. "I'm Pyra," it said. "And you've entered the Lightning Pyramid—the place where storm-born children discover their magic."
"Magic?" Lila touched her floating curls. A spark jumped from her fingertip. "But my hair is just... messy."
"Messy?" Pyra swam closer. "Lightning isn't neat and tidy. It's wild and powerful and beautiful—just like you. Your hair collects storm energy. When you learn to use it, you can light up dark places, warm cold nights, and help others find their way."
Another real lightning bolt flashed outside the pyramid. Pyra gasped. "Someone's lost in the storm! Quick, Lila—send your lightning hair to guide them!"
Lila concentrated. Her hair began to glow, brighter and brighter, until beams of light shot through the pyramid's walls like a beacon. Minutes later, Pyra smiled. "You did it. A lost hiker followed your light home."
Lila's heart soared. She wasn't a lion-headed freak. She was a lightning-haired hero.
When she tumbled back into the attic, the storm had passed. The golden pyramid was just a paperweight again. But Lila knew the truth. She ran her fingers through her wild hair and smiled as a tiny spark danced between them.
Tomorrow at school, she'd hold her head high. Frizzy hair wasn't a curse—it was her superpower.
