The Lightning Pyramid
Lily loved thunderstorms. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky flash with brilliant light.
One evening, while running through her backyard in the rain, something extraordinary happened. In the garden stood a small pyramid she'd built from blocks that morning. As lightning flashed across the sky, the pyramid began to glow.
"Hello!" a tiny voice squeaked.
Lily gasped. The pyramid was talking!
"I'm Bramble," said the little pyramid. "Lightning woke me up. I've been asleep for a thousand years."
Lily knelt beside him. "You're magic?"
"Only during storms," Bramble said. "When lightning strikes near me, I can move. But I'm lonely. Everyone I knew disappeared long ago."
Lily's heart ached. She knew how it felt to be lonely—she'd just moved to a new town and hadn't made friends yet.
"I'll be your friend," Lily promised. "But what happens when the storm ends?"
Bramble's glow dimmed. "I go back to sleep until the next lightning."
Lily had an idea. She grabbed her father's old flashlight and flicked it on. The beam hit Bramble, and suddenly his glow brightened.
"It works!" Bramble cheered. "Any bright light can wake me!"
Every day after school, Lily came running to the backyard with her flashlight. She and Bramble played games, told stories, and had wonderful adventures in the garden. The other kids in the neighborhood noticed and soon joined them. Lily made her first real friends.
One afternoon, Lily's little brother tripped and scraped his knee. He was crying hard.
Bramble glowed softly. "May I help?"
The pyramid told a funny story that made her brother laugh through his tears. Lily realized something wonderful—Bramble's magic wasn't just about light. It was about bringing joy.
That night, Lily placed Bramble on her windowsill. Even without lightning or flashlights, he stayed awake, surrounded by new friends and full of happiness.
"You know," Lily whispered, "some people are like pyramids. They might seem ordinary, but they have magic inside them waiting for the right moment to shine."
Bramble glowed brighter than ever. And every storm after that, Lily still ran to the window—not just to watch the lightning, but to smile at her oldest friend.
