The Lightning Pool's Secret Spy

Mira loved exploring the forest behind her house. Every afternoon after school, she'd wander through the tall trees, discovering new paths and hidden places. But her favorite spot was something she'd never told anyone about—a secret pool tucked between ancient oaks, where the water shimmered like liquid sapphires.

One summer evening, as gray clouds gathered overhead, Mira sat by her pool watching tiny ripples dance across the surface. Suddenly, a flash of lightning split the sky! CRACK-BOOM! But instead of fading away, a bolt of golden lightning spiraled down and dove straight into the pool.

Mira gasped. The water glowed with swirling light, then spit out something small and sparkling—a glowing blue stone that hummed with warmth.

"Pretty, isn't it?" squeaked a voice from above.

Mira looked up to see a bright blue jay perched on a branch, watching her with clever black eyes. "I've been spying on this pool for years," the bird chirped. "I'm Jasper, guardian of the lightning pool. Nice to finally meet you, Mira."

"You can talk?!" Mira's eyes widened.

"Only to special children," Jasper puffed out his blue feathers proudly. "I spy on who visits the pool, making sure only kind hearts find it. Want to know the secret?"

Mira nodded eagerly.

"Every lightning bolt that touches this pool becomes a wish stone," Jasper explained. "But they only work if you give them away."

Mira looked at the glowing stone in her hand, then thought of her grandmother, whose old knees hurt when it rained. She closed her fingers around it tight, whispered a wish, and tucked it into her pocket.

The next morning, Mira found her grandmother dancing in the garden, pain-free for the first time in years. And in Mira's pocket, the stone had turned into a tiny feather—blue like Jasper's wings.

Now whenever storms roll in, Mira rushes to her secret pool. And sometimes, if she's lucky, she spots a flash of blue feathers spying from the branches above, always watching, always smiling.
