The Lightning Pool's Magic

Maya loved storms. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One afternoon, her best friend Leo ran to her door. "Maya! Come quick! The forest behind my house — there's something magical happening!"

They grabbed their rain boots and splashed through puddles until they reached the clearing. There, shimmering in the gray light, was a pool Maya had never seen before. Its water sparkled like diamonds, even in the gloomy storm light.

"It only appears when lightning comes," Leo whispered. "Watch."

A crack of thunder shook the trees. A bolt of lightning struck the ground nearby — and suddenly, a papaya tree grew from the earth right beside the pool! Its orange fruit glowed with an inner light.

"The lightning plants magic papayas!" Maya gasped.

Leo nodded. "And each papaya grants one wish. But we must wish for something that helps others, not ourselves."

Maya's heart raced. She thought of her grandmother, whose old knees made it hard to walk to the garden she loved. She plucked a glowing papaya and closed her eyes tight.

"I wish for Grandma to dance in her garden again."

The papaya turned into golden butterflies that swirled upward, vanishing into the storm clouds.

The next morning, Maya's phone rang. It was her grandmother. "Maya, dear! Something magical happened. My knees don't hurt anymore, and I danced all morning among my flowers!"

Maya and Leo looked at each other and smiled. The lightning pool had taught them something wonderful: the best magic isn't about making wishes for yourself, but about spreading joy to the people you love.

Now, whenever storms come, Maya and Leo don't just watch from their windows. They put on their boots and run toward the forest, ready to make more magic for others.
