The Lightning Pool's Gift

Mira had the most unusual hair in her whole school. It was bright orange, like the sunset, and it frizzed and curled every which way no matter how much she brushed it. Kids teased her, calling her 'Carrot Top' and 'Flamingo.' Mira wished she could just disappear.

One afternoon, dark clouds gathered. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy. Mira took cover under the old willow tree at the edge of town. That's when she saw it—a tiny lightning bolt, no bigger than a firefly, dancing in the air.

'Follow me!' the little lightning seemed to say, zipping toward the forest.

Mira shouldn't follow strange magic into the woods, but something pulled her forward. The lightning spark led her deeper, past trees twisted like sleeping giants, until suddenly—there it was.

A pool of water, glowing from within, illuminated by tiny lightning bolts swimming like fish. The Orange Pool, old stories called it. Mira knelt at the edge, her orange curls tumbling around her face.

The water whispered, 'Only the brightest may enter.'

Mira stepped in. The water was warm, like sunshine. The tiny lightning bolts swirled around her, and suddenly she wasn't just Mira with weird hair anymore. She could feel everything—the trees' ancient dreams, the wind's secrets, even what the animals were thinking. Her orange hair wasn't standing out awkwardly; it was glowing, channeling magic like a lightning rod.

'You're different because you're special,' the pool seemed to say. 'Orange is the color of creativity, of courage, of fire that transforms things.'

Mira understood. Her hair wasn't strange—it was her magic, showing the world she was someone unique.

The storm broke. Rain poured down, washing away her doubts. When Mira stepped out of the pool, she was still herself—but changed inside. She wouldn't hide anymore.

Walking home, Mira's wild orange curls bounced proudly. Lightning flashed in the distance, but she wasn't afraid. She was ready to shine.
