The Lightning Pool Magic
Emma and Jake were playing zombie tag in Emma's backyard. Jake lumbered after her with arms stretched out, moaning, 'Brains!' as Emma darted around the swimming pool, giggling. The summer sun beat down on them, making the blue water sparkle like diamonds.
'Slow down, zombie!' Emma laughed, hopping over a garden gnome.
Suddenly, the sky turned dark purple. Thunder rumbled like a hungry tummy.
'Maybe we should go inside,' Jake suggested, dropping his zombie act.
Just then, lightning flashed — CRACK! — striking a tree near the pool. But instead of burning, the lightning turned into glowing purple ribbons that danced across the water's surface. The pool began to glow with soft blue light, and tiny silver fish appeared, swimming in patterns.
'Whoa,' Emma whispered, eyes wide.
The lightning ribbons formed words in the air: BE KIND TO WATER, AND WATER WILL BE KIND TO YOU.
The children watched in wonder as the glowing pool showed them memories — their first swim lessons, birthday parties, the day they met. Then the ribbons swirled together, creating a beautiful crystal that floated into Emma's hands.
'For brave friends who play together,' the air seemed to hum.
The storm passed as quickly as it had arrived. The glow faded, but the crystal remained, warm and pulsing softly. Emma and Jake sat by the pool, watching the ripples settle.
'Do you think that really happened?' Jake asked.
Emma smiled, pressing the crystal to her heart. 'Does it matter? We're friends, and that's the real magic.'
They ran inside for chocolate milk, already planning tomorrow's adventure — maybe the garden gnome would come to life next time.
