The Lightning Pool Adventure

Mia hated spinach. Every night, her mom served the green mushy stuff, and every night, Mia pushed it around her plate.

One stormy afternoon, Mia watched from her window as lightning cracked across the sky like white fireworks. She noticed something strange: a thick cable dangling from the telephone pole, swinging wildly in the wind. The cable's metal tip sparkled as rain pelted it.

Suddenly—ZIP! A bolt of lightning struck the cable!

Mia gasped as blue light traveled down the cable and zapped right into her family's swimming pool. The water glowed like liquid sapphire.

She grabbed her yellow raincoat and boots. Outside, she found a tiny green frog sitting poolside. The frog hopped onto a floating spinach leaf that had blown from the garden.

"I'm Fernando!" the frog croaked. "And that lightning magic made the pool special!"

Mia peered into the shimmering water. Instead of her reflection, she saw an underwater kingdom where spinach plants were tall, emerald trees and tiny leafy people danced.

"We need help!" cried a little spinach boy named Spikey. "Our home is too dry!"

Mia knew what to do. She turned on the garden hose and sprinkled water over her mom's spinach garden. The plants stretched their leaves happily.

Inside, Mia sat down to dinner. This time, when she looked at her spinach, she saw brave little warriors who protected her body and made her strong.

"Thank you, Spikey," she whispered, and ate every bite.

It tasted like adventure.
