The Lightning Pool
Maya loved thunderstorms. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window glass, watching the sky flash with brightness. One rainy afternoon, something magical happened.
As raindrops streamed down the window, Maya cupped her hand to catch them. A tiny pool of water formed in the palm of her hand. Suddenly, lightning flashed outside, and the little pool began to glow.
Maya gasped. Inside the tiny pool, she could see another world! It was a miniature kingdom where small creatures danced in the rain. She watched in wonder as they caught lightning bolts in jars, using the light to brighten their homes below the ground.
"They're lightning fairies!" Maya whispered. She had become a spy into a secret world that no one else knew existed.
Every storm after that, Maya would cup her hands and watch her tiny friends. She learned that the smallest fairy, named Pip, was afraid of the loud thunder. The other fairies would gather around Pip, holding hands until the storm passed.
One day, Maya wrote a note on a tiny piece of paper: "You are brave." She placed it in her palm pool during the next storm. When lightning flashed, the note disappeared into the fairy world.
The next morning, Maya found something special on her windowsill—a tiny jar filled with captured starlight, glowing softly. A note beside it read: "Thank you for believing in us."
Maya smiled, pressing her palm against the glass. Some secrets are worth keeping, and some friends are worth waiting for—no matter how small they might be.
