The Lightning Pool

lightningpoolfriend

Lily had always wondered what happened in her backyard pool at night. Sometimes she'd see tiny flashes from her bedroom window, like stars dancing on water.

One summer evening, during a gentle rain, Lily sneaked outside. The pool water rippled with each raindrop, creating circles within circles. Suddenly—FLASH! A bolt of lightning struck the water, but it didn't hurt the pool. Instead, something magical happened.

The water began to glow softly, like a nightlight. A small creature popped up from the surface—a tiny being made entirely of shimmering light.

"Hello!" the creature squeaked. "I'm Zap!"

Lily gasped. "You're... you're made of lightning!"

"Only on Tuesdays," Zap giggled. "Usually I'm just regular pool magic. Want to see my trick?"

Zap jumped up and did a flip, leaving trails of sparkles behind. Lily clapped her hands in delight.

"I'm Lily," she said. "Will you be my friend?"

Zap thought for a moment. "Friends share secrets. Do you promise to keep mine?"

"I promise!"

"Every lightning storm, magical creatures gather in pools worldwide to recharge our spark," Zap explained. "But we can only appear to children with kind hearts."

Lily felt warm inside. She'd always tried to be kind, even when others weren't.

Zap showed her more wonders—rainbow ripples, singing bubbles, and fireflies that danced on the water. They played until the rain stopped and the first stars appeared.

"I have to go now," Zap said sadly. "But I'll visit whenever it rains."

"Really?" Lily asked.

"Really. That's what friends do—they come back."

Lily waved goodbye as Zap dissolved into sparkles. The pool returned to normal, but something had changed. Now whenever Lily saw lightning, she didn't feel scared. She remembered her magical friend and the secret they shared: kindness opens doors to the most wonderful adventures.

And sometimes, if you look closely during a rainstorm, you might just see sparkles dancing in a pool near you.
