The Lightning Pond Secret

Leo loved to watch storms. One rainy afternoon, he peered through his bedroom window as lightning flashed across the dark sky. Each bolt made the whole world glow bright white for just a second.

But Leo noticed something strange. Down by the old pond behind his house, tiny sparks of light danced above the water whenever lightning struck nearby. They weren't reflections—they were magical!

Leo decided to become a spy. He put on his yellow raincoat and gumboots, grabbed his flashlight, and crept outside. The rain fell around him as he tiptoed to the pond's edge, hiding behind a weeping willow tree.

What he saw made his eyes go wide.

Little glowing creatures were swimming in the pond! They looked like tiny fish made of pure light, darting through the water like living stars. They only appeared during lightning storms.

One small creature noticed Leo watching. Instead of swimming away, it splashed right up to the pond's edge and looked at him with big, curious eyes.

"Hello!" the creature said in a voice like wind chimes. "I'm Sparkle. Are you here to play?"

Leo couldn't believe it. "You can talk?"

"Of course!" Sparkle giggled. "We're lightning sprites. We come down from the clouds during storms to have swimming races in your pond. Would you like to be our friend?"

Leo's heart filled with wonder. He'd never had a magical friend before!

"Yes!" he said.

Sparkle taught Leo a secret: lightning sprites collect stories from children and carry them up into the clouds, where they become dreams that rain down on the world at night. The more friends they make, the more beautiful dreams they share.

That night, Leo fell asleep with the biggest smile. Somewhere high above, his new friend was swimming through storm clouds, carrying Leo's story of adventure and magic to children everywhere.

And sometimes, when you see lightning flash, remember: somewhere, a lightning sprite is making a new friend and collecting another beautiful dream.
