The Lightning Pond Adventure

spyzombieswimminglightningdog

Leo pressed his eye to the telescope, just like a real spy. His golden retriever, Barnaby, wagged his tail beside him. They were on a mission!

"I see something," Leo whispered. Down by the old pond, someone was walking very, very slowly. Step... drag... step... drag.

"A zombie?" Leo giggled. But zombies weren't real—were they?

Barnaby barked once, sharp and excited. Together, they crept through the tall grass.

The slow walker was Mr. Higgins, their neighbor! He was sleepwalking right toward the pond!

CRACK! Lightning split the sky. Rain poured down like magic from above.

"Mr. Higgins!" Leo called. But his neighbor kept walking, now swimming—still asleep!—right into the pond's glowing water.

The lightning struck again, and the pond shimmered with strange blue light. Something magical was happening!

Leo grabbed a long branch. Barnaby swam ahead, barking encouragement. Together, they guided the sleep-swimming Mr. Higgins back to shore.

Mr. Higgins woke up shivering. "I had the most wonderful dream," he said. "I was flying through lightning!"

Leo and Barnaby exchanged a secret look. Being a spy meant keeping some mysteries safe.

"Next time," Leo whispered to his dog, "we'll bring extra towels."

And that's how Leo learned: sometimes the best adventures are the ones you share with your best friend—even if they do involve sleepwalking neighbors, lightning magic ponds, and swimming in the rain.
