The Lightning Pocket Adventure

Maya was running through the backyard, her bare feet tickling the grass. Dark clouds gathered overhead as the first rumble of thunder echoed across the sky. She loved stormy days — they felt magical, like anything could happen.

Her friend Leo waved from his porch, holding up his iPhone. 'Maya! Come see! My grandma's weather app says there's going to be lightning shaped like hearts!' Maya laughed and sprinted over, just as a brilliant flash lit up the sky.

CRACK!

A bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree in Maya's yard. But instead of burning it, the lightning wrapped around the tree like glowing ribbons. A tiny door opened in the trunk.

'Did you see that?' Maya gasped, grabbing Leo's hand. 'Let's check it out!'

They approached the tree cautiously. Inside, they found a tiny workshop where a small green creature was working. He had messy hair, big friendly eyes, and walked a bit stiffly, like he was still learning how to use his legs.

'Hello!' said the creature. 'I'm Zim! I'm what you might call a zombie — but don't worry, I'm not scary! I'm just a thunder-cloud helper who was struck by lightning three times, and now I'm a bit... well... undead-ish!'

Zim explained he made lightning bolts for storms, but he'd dropped his lightning-making hammer. 'Without it, I can't create beautiful lightning shows for children to watch from their windows!'

Maya spotted the hammer under a pile of clouds. 'Here!' She handed it to Zim.

'Thank you!' Zim cheered. 'For your kindness, I'll show you something special.' He waved the hammer, and golden sparks swirled around them. 'Every time you see heart-shaped lightning, remember: friendship is the most powerful magic of all.'

That night, Maya and Leo watched from their windows as heart-shaped lightning danced across the sky, flashing in secret code: F-R-I-E-N-D.
