The Lightning Path Friend
Mia loved running more than anything. Every day after school, she'd run through the park, her sneakers drumming against the path, her ponytail bouncing behind her. But running alone wasn't as fun as it sounded. Mia had no one to race with, no one to laugh with when she tripped over her own feet, no one to share the beautiful sunset views from the top of the hill.
One stormy afternoon, Mia sat by her window watching rain splash against the glass. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning crackled across the dark sky—and something magical happened. Where the lightning struck, a glowing golden path appeared, shimmering in the air like a staircase made of light.
Without thinking, Mia grabbed her sneakers and dashed outside. Her heart pounding with excitement, she started running toward the glowing path. To her amazement, her feet landed right on it, as solid as if it were made of golden sunshine.
She ran higher and higher into the clouds, leaving the rain behind. Up there, in a kingdom of fluffy white castles, she saw someone small and sparkly sitting alone on a cloud. It was a lightning spirit, glowing with a soft yellow light, looking very lonely.
"Hello!" Mia called out, running closer. "I'm Mia. What's your name?"
"I'm Spark," the spirit said shyly. "I create lightning, but I have no one to share it with. Everyone's afraid of my storms."
Mia's eyes widened with wonder. "Your storms are beautiful! And this path—it's amazing! Want to go running together?"
Spark's glow brightened instantly. Together, they ran through cloud meadows, raced around rainbow bridges, and played tag among the stars. For the first time, Mia wasn't running alone.
"Will you come back?" Spark asked when it was time for Mia to leave.
"Every storm!" Mia promised. "And I'll tell my classmate Leo about you. He loves thunderstorms too!"
The next day at school, Mia sat next to Leo. "Do you ever wonder what makes lightning?" she asked with a secret smile.
Leo's eyes lit up. "All the time!"
As they talked and laughed, Mia realized something wonderful: sometimes the most magical friendships begin when you're brave enough to say hello—whether it's to a lonely spirit in the clouds or a quiet kid at school.
And every stormy day after that, when lightning flashed across the sky, Mia would smile, knowing her friend was saying hello from above.
