The Lightning Palm Tree Baseball
Leo hated spinach more than anything in the world. Every Tuesday, his mom made spinach for dinner, and every Tuesday, Leo hid it in his napkin.
One Tuesday, Leo took his napkin outside to throw it into the bushes. But then he heard something—crack! zoom! A bright bolt of lightning struck the old palm tree in his backyard!
The tree began to glow. A baseball appeared on its highest branch, shimmering with golden light. Leo had never seen anything like it.
"Throw me!" the baseball seemed to whisper in Leo's mind.
Leo reached up, and the baseball jumped right into his palm. It felt warm and tingly, like it was alive.
"Play with me!" the baseball whispered again.
Leo threw the ball as hard as he could. Whoosh! It sailed over the fence, over the neighbor's house, and kept going! Then—zoop!—it came flying back, right into Leo's glove.
This was the most magical baseball ever!
Leo played until the sun set. He didn't even notice when his mom called him for dinner.
"Leo! Time to eat!"
When Leo sat down, there it was. The spinach. But now, Leo felt different. After playing with his magical baseball, he felt strong and brave.
He tried one bite. Then another. You know what? It wasn't so bad.
The lightning ball appeared in Leo's dreams that night. It whispered, "Trying new things makes you powerful. Even spinach."
Leo woke up smiling. He couldn't wait for Tuesday's spinach now. And every time he ate it, he felt a little tingle in his palm, reminding him of the magical day lightning struck the palm tree and taught him that being brave means trying new things.
