The Lightning Palm's Secret Gift
Lily was the shyest girl in her village, afraid to climb trees, speak in class, or even tell her neighbor that his dog had dug up her garden. But every evening, she watched the old palm tree behind her house sway in the breeze, its fronds dancing like green fingers waving at the stars.
One stormy night, Lily sat by her window when a brilliant bolt of lightning flashed across the sky. It struck the palm tree with a crack like thunder breaking open a coconut! But instead of burning, the tree glowed with a soft golden light. Lily's heart pounded. Should she investigate?
Her grandfather had once told her, "True courage isn't the absence of fear. It's acting despite being afraid."
Lily grabbed her yellow raincoat and stepped outside. Rain tapped on her hood like tiny fingers. She approached the palm tree, whose bark now shimmered with sparkles that looked like captured lightning. In its branches hung three glowing orange fruits, pulsing with gentle light.
"Courage vitamin for the child who needs it most," whispered the tree, its voice like rustling leaves. "But you must climb to reach them."
Lily's hands trembled. Climbing had always terrified her. But tonight, something felt different. The tree's glow was warm and inviting, not scary at all. She placed one foot on the rough bark, then another. Higher she climbed, her heart racing like raindrops racing down her windowpane.
Her fingers closed around the first glowing fruit. It felt warm against her palm, as if it held a tiny piece of sunshine. She plucked all three and carefully climbed down.
"These aren't magic vitamins," the tree explained gently. "They're reminders. You climbed despite your fear. The courage was already inside you."
Lily bit into one fruit—it tasted like sunshine and bravery. The next morning, she walked to school with her head held high. When her teacher asked a question, Lily raised her hand. When she got home, she knocked on her neighbor's door to tell him about his dog.
That night, the palm tree's glow had faded, but Lily's smile shone brighter than ever. She had learned that sometimes the most magical vitamins are the ones we discover within ourselves.
