The Lightning Palm's Secret
Lily loved the old palm tree in her backyard. Its rough bark felt like grandfather's skin, and its fronds danced in the wind like green hair. But most wonderful of all was what happened during summer storms.
One evening, as purple clouds gathered overhead, Lily watched the first drops of water fall. She ran to the palm tree, pressing both palms against its trunk. "Tell me a secret," she whispered.
Cr-r-ack! Lightning flashed across the sky, turning the world silver-white for one heartbeat. In that moment, Lily saw something amazing—water droplets on the palm frond were glowing with captured lightning!
The old palm tree spoke in a voice like rustling leaves: "Little one, I've waited years for someone who notices. Each lightning bolt I catch, I store in water drops for special wishes."
Lily's eyes widened. "Magical lightning water? What does it do?"
"It grants one wish to someone with a kind heart. But choose wisely—some wishes are too big even for storm magic."
Lily thought hard. She could wish for endless toys, or to fly like lightning, or for water that tasted like candy. But then she remembered her neighbor Mr. Chen, whose garden had dried up because the old well had broken.
"I wish for water to flow in Mr. Chen's garden again," Lily said, pressing both palms against the tree.
The glowing droplets swirled up the trunk, out the fronds, and danced through the air like tiny stars. They sprinkled across the fence, and suddenly Lily heard water bubbling—Mr. Chen's old well was working again!
"Thank you, old palm tree!" Lily called.
"Thank yourself," the tree whispered back. "The strongest magic is kindness shared."
From that day on, Lily noticed magic everywhere—in raindrops, in sunlight, in helping hands. And every stormy evening, she'd press her palm against the tree, just in case it had another secret to share.
