The Lightning Palm Detective
Lily loved secrets. Every day after school, she'd climb the oak tree in her backyard and pretend to be a detective, searching for mysteries.
One stormy evening, lightning flashed across the sky—crack! boom!—and something strange happened. Lily looked at her palm. It was glowing!
"Whoa!" she whispered.
The glowing palm pulsed like a tiny heartbeat. Then she saw him: a green figure shuffling behind the garden fence. He looked sad, not scary. His skin was the color of moss, and his eyes were kind.
"Hello?" Lily called out.
The figure jumped. "Oh! You can see me?"
"I'm Lily. Are you... are you a zombie?"
He nodded slowly. "I'm Zim. Everyone runs away when they see me. But I'm not scary. I'm just lonely."
Lily's palm glowed brighter. "I don't think you're scary."
"Will you help me?" Zim asked. "I lost my favorite dancing shoes. Without them, I can't dance in the moonlight."
"I'll help! I'm basically a spy. I can find anything!"
Together they searched the garden. Lily's palm glowed whenever they got close. Under the porch? No. Behind the roses? No. Then—zing!—her palm flashed like a tiny lightning bolt.
"There!" cried Lily.
Under a pumpkin sat two sparkly purple shoes.
"My dancing shoes!" Zim cheered. He put them on and did a happy twirl. "Thank you, Lily! Will you dance with me?"
And so they danced under the moon, the girl with the magical palm and the zombie who just wanted a friend. Lily learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things are actually the kindest—and that being a good detective means seeing with your heart, not just your eyes.
From that night on, whenever lightning flashed, Lily's palm would glow, reminding her: magic is real, and friends come in all shapes, sizes, and colors—even green.
