The Lightning Padel Match
Lily loved her grandfather's old padel racket. It had scratches and faded tape, but he'd told her it was magical. "During a storm," he'd whispered, "this racket can catch lightning."
One afternoon, dark clouds gathered as Lily practiced against the garden wall. Her best friend Marco watched, holding his parents' new iPhone to film her serve.
"You're getting better!" Marco called, but then—FLASH! A bolt of lightning streaked across the sky.
Rain poured down. They ran for the porch, but Lily's padel racket lay forgotten in the yard. Suddenly, a small lightning bolt zapped right into the racket! It glowed with golden light, hovering in the air.
"Did you see that?" Lily gasped.
Marco raised the iPhone, recording as the racket began to float. "This is amazing!"
Lily reached out, and the racket settled into her hand, warm and tingling. When she tapped a ball, it sparkled like a tiny star. They played the most magical game ever—balls lighting up, the racket guiding her shots, laughter mixing with thunder.
But as the storm passed, the racket's glow faded. "The magic only comes during storms," Lily realized, feeling disappointed.
Marco showed her the iPhone video. "But look—you caught lightning today. And you'll catch it again."
Lily smiled. Some magic is rare, but that makes it special. And true friendship? That's the magic that stays forever, lightning or not.
