The Lightning Padel Court
Luna had the wildest hair in town. It sprouted in every direction like a dandelion gone to seed, bouncing when she walked and swirling when she spun. Her mother tried braids, clips, and even hats, but Luna's hair had a mind of its own.
Behind Luna's house stood an old padel court, abandoned since before she was born. The fence was rusty, the net had holes, and weeds grew through the cracks. But Luna loved it there. She would swing her imaginary racquet and imagine crowds cheering her name.
One stormy evening, lightning flashed across the sky. Luna watched from her window, fascinated by the jagged bolts that cracked the darkness like eggshells. Suddenly, a massive lightning bolt struck the old padel court!
Luna ran outside in her rainboots. The court was glowing!
Then she saw them — not one, not two, but a dozen little figures climbing up from beneath the cracked concrete. They were greenish-gray and moved stiffly, with arms outstretched. Zombies!
Luna gasped and almost ran. But then she noticed something strange. These zombies weren't scary at all. They were holding tiny padel racquets made of twigs and wearing little jerseys made of leaves.
"We've been waiting 100 years for someone to play with us!" said the smallest zombie, whose name was Zim. "The lightning freed us from our underground game."
Luna's hair crackled with static, standing even wilder than usual.
"You want to play padel?" Luna asked, grinning.
"More than anything!" Zim cheered.
They played the most magical game ever. Whenever Luna hit the ball, her hair sparkled. The zombies moved in slow, funny ways but never missed a shot. Lightning flashed overhead with every point, lighting up the court like a disco.
When Luna's mother called her for dinner, the zombies waved goodbye.
"Same time tomorrow?" Zim asked.
"Every storm!" Luna promised.
She learned that night that things aren't always what they seem. Sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just want a friend. And sometimes, the most magical adventures are waiting right in your own backyard.
Luna's messy hair? It was perfect — just right for catching a little extra magic.
