The Lightning Padel
Lily found the old iphone in her grandmother's attic, tucked inside a wooden box covered in star stickers. When she pressed the button, the screen didn't show apps or games — it showed a magical forest where the trees glowed purple and the rivers flowed with sparkling light.
Through the screen, Lily saw something moving. A bear cub! The little bear was shivering under a giant mushroom, paws over its eyes. Lightning flashed across the magical forest, but it wasn't scary lightning — it was bright pink and gold, like melted sunshine.
The screen rippled like water. Lily reached toward it, and her hand went right through! Suddenly she stood in the magical forest, the grass soft beneath her sneakers. The bear cub looked up with worried brown eyes.
"Don't be afraid," Lily whispered, kneeling beside the trembling cub. More lightning crackled across the sky. The bear whimpered.
That's when Lily spotted it — a wooden padel leaning against the mushroom, carved with stars and moons. She picked it up, and it hummed in her hands, warm and friendly.
Another bolt of pink lightning streaked toward them. Without thinking, Lily swung the padel through the air. *PING!* The lightning hit the wooden surface and bounced off, transforming into hundreds of tiny butterflies that fluttered around the bear cub.
The bear's eyes went wide with wonder. It wasn't scared anymore!
Lily and the bear cub spent the afternoon batting lightning together, turning every scary bolt into something magical — flowers, stars, singing birds. The bear cub discovered it was brave enough to help too, using its paws to swat gentle lightning into sparkles.
"We make a great team," Lily said, hugging her new friend.
When the first real star appeared in the sky, Lily knew it was time to go home. The bear cub pressed something into her hand — a tiny wooden lightning bolt carved from the same magical wood as the padel.
"Thank you for being brave for both of us," the bear seemed to say without words.
Back in her room, Lily looked at the iphone. Now it showed a picture — Lily and her bear friend, sitting under the mushroom, surrounded by butterflies made from lightning. She touched the wooden lightning bolt around her neck and smiled.
Some magic, she learned, isn't about never being afraid. It's about finding courage together — and turning scary things into beautiful adventures, one lightning bolt at a time.
