The Lightning Orange Grove

Lily loved her grandmother's orange grove. The trees were ancient, with twisted branches that reached toward the sky like friendly fingers. But there was something magical about this grove that only Lily knew.

Every year, on the first day of spring, a strange thing happened. As storm clouds gathered overhead, the oranges began to glow with an inner light. Grandmother called them "storm oranges," but Lily knew better. These were magic oranges.

One particularly stormy afternoon, Lily sat beneath her favorite tree when CRACK! A bolt of lightning struck the highest branch, filling the grove with brilliant purple light. The air smelled sweet and electric, like honey and thunder mixed together.

When Lily opened her eyes, a small orange was rolling toward her, glowing with an orange so bright it seemed to contain captured sunshine. But this wasn't ordinary sunshine—it was lightning magic!

"Eat me," the orange seemed to hum.

Lily took a bite. It tasted like sunshine and sparkles, like happiness and adventure all mixed together. Suddenly, she felt different. Stronger. Braver.

Her grandmother found her sitting cross-legged, surrounded by glowing oranges. "Ah, you've discovered the lightning oranges," Grandmother said with a knowing smile. "They appear only once a year, during the perfect storm. Each one contains a special vitamin—not the kind you take with breakfast, but a vitamin for your heart."

"What kind of vitamin?" Lily asked, taking another bite.

"The vitamin of courage," Grandmother explained. "And kindness, and curiosity, and wonder. These vitamins help you grow up brave and good. But you must share them—the magic only works when given freely."

Lily looked at the glowing oranges around her. She knew exactly what to do.

That afternoon, she distributed lightning oranges to everyone in town. The grumpy baker received the vitamin of laughter. The shy new girl at school got the vitamin of friendship. Even her little brother, who was afraid of the dark, received the vitamin of bravery.

As the sun set and the storm passed, the grove returned to normal. But Lily knew the magic would return next year, and until then, the vitamins of kindness and courage would keep growing in everyone's hearts.

Sometimes, the most powerful magic comes from the most unexpected places—even from a lightning-struck orange in your grandmother's grove.
