The Lightning Orange
Lily loved the old palm tree in her grandmother's garden. Its rough trunk felt like the wrinkled hand of a wise giant, and its green leaves danced in the wind like hundreds of happy fingers waving hello. Every day after school, Lily would run to the palm tree and press her own small palm against its bark, whispering her secrets and dreams.
One afternoon, as dark clouds gathered overhead, Lily noticed something unusual. A single orange fruit hung from the very top of the palm tree, glowing softly even though the sun had disappeared. Strange orange light pulsed from it like a tiny heartbeat.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning streaked across the sky and struck the palm tree! Lily gasped and covered her eyes. But instead of burning the tree, the lightning seemed to flow down the trunk like liquid silver, pouring directly into the glowing orange.
When Lily opened her eyes, the orange had floated down from the tree and hovered right in front of her face. It was warm and bright, pulsing with gentle light that made her feel safe and brave.
"Help me," whispered a tiny voice. Lily looked down and saw a small kitten trapped beneath some fallen branches, mewing sadly. Without thinking, Lily grabbed the magical orange. Its light grew stronger, guiding her hands as she lifted the heavy branches with surprising strength. The kitten scampered free, purring with gratitude.
The orange's light faded as it became an ordinary fruit. Lily knew she had to plant its seeds. That night, she tucked three small seeds into the earth beneath the palm tree.
Years later, three new palm trees grew there, each bearing magical oranges that would appear only during storms. Lily became known as the guardian of the lightning groves, helping anyone who needed courage or strength. She had learned that true magic wasn't about power—it was about using what you have to help others.
