The Lightning Messenger
Tim was running through the meadow, his sneakers thumping against the soft grass. He clutched his mom's old iphone tightly in one hand. It was supposed to be for games only, but today it felt different.
Dark clouds gathered overhead like giant purple pillows. CRACK! A bolt of lightning zigzagged across the sky, so bright it made Tim squeeze his eyes shut. When he opened them, something magical had happened. The iphone screen glowed with tiny sparks that danced like little fireflies.
"Hello!" squeaked a tiny voice from the screen.
Tim gasped. A miniature girl with hair made of lightning bolts peeked out from the iphone. She was smaller than his thumb!
"I'm Sparky," she said. "I live in the Lightning Kingdom, but I'm stuck! Can you help me get home?"
Tim's heart raced. He was just a kid, but he nodded bravely. "What do I need to do?"
"Hold the iphone up to the next lightning bolt!" Sparky exclaimed. "Quick, before the storm ends!"
Tim kept running toward the hill as the sky rumbled. Another lightning bolt flashed—KA-ZOOM! He lifted the iphone high, and Sparky grabbed onto a tiny spark of real lightning that flickered into the screen. WHOOSH! She disappeared into the storm clouds.
A moment later, the iphone chimed. A text message appeared: THANK YOU, BRAVE FRIEND!
Tim smiled all the way home. Sometimes the most ordinary things can become extraordinary adventures. All you need is courage—and a little bit of magic.
