The Lightning Message

Maya hated thunderstorms. The loud crashes made her hide under her blanket every time. But one summer evening, something strange happened.

A brilliant bolt of lightning flashed outside her window, and for just a second, Maya saw something glowing in her backyard. It wasn't a fire. It was something else—something magical.

She grabbed her yellow rain boots and tiptoed downstairs. The house was quiet. Everyone else was sleeping. Maya slipped out the back door into the warm summer rain.

The glowing thing was still there—a small creature made entirely of shimmering light, like a tiny star that had fallen from the sky. It was flickering, growing dimmer.

"Are you okay?" Maya whispered.

The little light creature flickered brighter and made a sound like tiny bells ringing. Then it started floating away, toward the woods behind Maya's house.

"Wait!" Maya called, running after it. She'd never gone into the woods at night before, especially not during a storm. But something about the little light made her brave.

She ran through puddles, her boots splashing, following the glowing creature deeper into the dark forest. Trees swayed in the wind, their branches like long fingers reaching toward the sky.

The light creature stopped in a small clearing and dimmed again, looking weak and frightened. Another massive lightning bolt crackled across the sky—BOOM!

The tiny creature shrank into itself, trembling.

"It's okay," Maya said gently, kneeling beside it. "The lightning can't hurt you here. I'll keep you safe."

She made a little shelter with her raincoat, creating a dry space over the creature. The storm raged on, but Maya stayed, humming soft songs to calm both of them down.

As the storm passed and the sky cleared, the little light creature grew stronger and brighter. It floated up and circled around Maya three times, leaving trails of sparkles like fairy dust. Then it soared up into the now-starry sky, joining the other stars.

Maya walked home, her heart full of wonder. She had discovered something important: sometimes, the scariest things lead to the most beautiful friendships. And now, every time there's a storm, Maya looks outside and smiles, wondering if her star friend is saying hello from above.
