The Lightning League

baseballlightningspy

Lila loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, she played in the park with her friends, running bases until the streetlights flickered on. Her favorite part was the magical moment just before a storm – when the air felt electric and anything seemed possible.

One evening, dark clouds gathered overhead. Lila grabbed her glove and ran inside, but something made her pause at her window. Lightning flashed, and for a split second, she saw tiny figures playing baseball in the clouds!

Lila pressed her nose against the glass. Was she imagining things?

The next stormy afternoon, Lila became a spy. She watched through her binoculars, and there they were – lightning people playing baseball! They slid across raindrops like bases. Thunder rumbled when someone scored a home run. The whole sky was their stadium!

One small lightning bolt, smaller than the rest, kept missing the ball. The others flickered with what looked like laughter. Lila felt bad for the little guy.

"If only I could help," she whispered.

The little lightning looked down and saw Lila watching. Instead of floating away, the bolt zipped closer and tapped on her window. Lila opened it carefully.

"I'm Flash," the lightning said in a crackly voice. "I'm not very good at baseball."

"Practice makes perfect," Lila said gently. "Want me to teach you?"

Every storm after that, Lila coached Flash from her bedroom window. She showed him how to hold an imaginary bat, how to time the swing, how to keep his eye on the ball.

Flash improved with every game. The other lightning bolts cheered when he finally hit his first home run – a magnificent flash that lit up the whole neighborhood!

Lila learned that everyone needs practice and patience, even magical lightning beings. And sometimes, the most wonderful friendships happen when you take time to look up and wonder.

Now whenever lightning flashes during a baseball game, Lila smiles. She knows it's just her friend Flash, saying hello from above.
