The Lightning Lake's Secret Friend
Lily loved visiting the old lake behind her grandmother's house. The water always sparkled like diamonds, especially during summer storms when lightning danced across the sky.
One rainy afternoon, Lily watched lightning strike the center of the lake. A glowing bubble floated to the surface, and inside was a small, green creature with sleepy eyes and messy hair. It looked like a zombie from her storybooks, but it smiled sweetly.
"Hello," said the creature, stretching. "I'm Zizzle. The lightning wakes me up every hundred years."
Lily wasn't scared. Zizzle didn't want to eat brains — he wanted to eat blueberries! He told her he was the lake's guardian, sleeping for a century until lightning recharged his magic.
"But people think I'm a monster," Zizzle said sadly. "They run away when they see me."
Lily took his hand. "They just need to know you. Grandmother says true friends see with their hearts, not their eyes."
Together, they played until sunset. Zizzle made water lilies bloom instantly, and he created rainbow bridges across the lake. Lily showed him her favorite hiding spots.
"Will you remember me?" Lily asked when Zizzle started to fade.
"Always," Zizzle promised, pressing a warm crystal into her palm. "This lightning stone will glow when I'm near. Wait for me, Lily."
Years passed. Lily grew up, but she never forgot her friend. And every hundred years, when lightning struck the lake, she knew Zizzle would return.
Sometimes the scariest-looking things hold the most beautiful magic. And friendship lasts forever, even across centuries.
