The Lightning Keeper's Pyramid

Maya lived in a village where the river bent like a question mark. Every afternoon, she watched storms gather over the distant mountains, their purple clouds heavy with secrets.

One morning, while gathering orange blossoms by the river, she noticed something strange. A small golden pyramid no bigger than her palm floated just above the water's surface. It hummed with a soft, electric glow.

"That's mine," said a voice behind her.

She turned to see Kael, a boy with storm-cloud eyes she'd never spoken to before. He held a wooden padel, worn smooth from years of use.

"What does it do?" Maya asked, fascinated.

"It catches lightning," Kael whispered. "My grandfather was the Lightning Keeper. He said this pyramid came from the sky itself, left by the stars who visit during storms. When the mountain cracks with thunder, the pyramid wakes up and stores the lightning inside."

Maya's eyes widened. "That's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard."

Kael looked at his worn shoes. "Grandfather said the Lightning Keeper needs a partner. Someone brave enough to hold the padel during a storm, someone who trusts their friend to aim the pyramid just right."

Outside, the sky darkened. Thunder rumbled like a sleeping giant.

"Let's try," Maya said, grabbing his hand.

They ran to the hillside as the first drops fell. Kael raised his padel. Maya held the pyramid high. Lightning cracked the sky open—brighter than sunrise, faster than fear.

The pyramid hummed and drank the light, glowing warmer and warmer until it pulsed like a small sun. The storm's anger became captured light, peaceful and safe.

"We did it," Kael breathed, his face illuminated by the pyramid's golden glow. "The stars left this for friends."

And so Maya and Kael became the new Lightning Keepers. Every storm brought them to the hillside, where fear turned to wonder, and strangers became the best of friends—reminding the whole village that even the scariest things become beautiful when shared with someone you trust.
