The Lightning in Leo's Palm

Leo was a boy who loved storms. While other children hid under blankets when thunder rumbled, Leo pressed his nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One evening, a particularly fierce storm swept through his village. Lightning flashed like jagged cracks in a dark canvas. Leo ran outside, arms spread wide, feeling the electric energy tingle against his skin.

Suddenly, a tiny bolt of lightning—no bigger than a firefly—drifted downward like a glowing feather. It landed softly in Leo's open palm.

Instead of burning him, it felt warm and gentle, like a kitten's purr. The little lightning spark shimmered blue and gold, pulsing with happiness.

'Hello,' Leo whispered, amazed.

The spark flickered back, forming the shape of a tiny smile.

'Are you lonely too?' Leo asked.

The spark nodded with a little wiggle.

From that night on, Leo had a new friend. He named her Flash, and she lived in a special glass jar beside his bed. Every evening, Flash would dance in spirals and zigzags, creating beautiful light shows that made Leo laugh with delight.

But Flash grew sad sometimes. 'I miss my family in the clouds,' she'd glow sadly.

Leo knew what he had to do, even though his heart felt heavy.

The next big storm, Leo climbed to the top of the highest hill. 'Go home,' he told Flash, opening his palm toward the sky. 'Your family misses you.'

Flash hugged his thumb one last time, then soared upward, joining the other lightning bolts in a magnificent display.

Leo waved through happy tears. He hadn't just found a friend—he had learned that the best friends are the ones you set free, and that true friendship means wanting others to be happy, even if it means saying goodbye.

Now, whenever storms come, Leo still watches from his window. And sometimes, just sometimes, a tiny spark flickers extra bright, as if waving back.
