The Lightning-Haired Zombie Friend
Lily was playing padel in her backyard when she saw something strange moving behind the old oak tree. It was green and lopsided, with the most magnificent purple hair she'd ever seen. The hair crackled and sparked like tiny bolts of lightning!
"Hello?" Lily called, dropping her padel racket.
The creature peeked out. He looked like a zombie, but not the scary kind from movies. His smile was sweet, and when he got excited, his purple hair lit up like a miniature lightning storm.
"I'm Ziggy," he said softly. "I've been watching you play. It looks fun."
Lily smiled. "Want to learn?"
Ziggy's hair flashed bright yellow with joy! For days, Lily taught her new friend how to hit the padel ball. At first, Ziggy was clumsy, his arms too long and his movements too slow. But he tried so hard that Lily's heart warmed.
Then came the day of the big storm. Dark clouds gathered, and thunder rumbled like a hungry tummy.
"We need to get inside!" Lily shouted, grabbing Ziggy's hand.
They started running toward the house, but Ziggy stopped. "The baby birds!" he pointed to the oak tree where a nest was teetering dangerously in the wind.
Without thinking, Ziggy ran toward the tree. His purple hair suddenly blazed with brilliant light, cutting through the darkness like a magical lantern. He reached up just as lightning struck the tree, and somehow caught the falling nest with all three baby birds safe inside.
Lily's mom ran outside. "What in the world—"
"Mom, this is Ziggy! He saved the birds!" Lily beamed.
Ziggy's hair glowed a soft, content pink. The storm suddenly cleared, and rainbow light danced through his purple strands.
"Sometimes," Ziggy said shyly, "being different means you can do special things."
Lily hugged her zombie friend tight. She had learned something wonderful that day: true friendship isn't about how you look or where you come from. It's about kindness, courage, and having each other's backs—whether you're running from storms or running toward adventure.
And every afternoon after school, you could still find them in the backyard, playing padel together under the watchful oak tree, with Ziggy's hair sparking little lightning bolts of joy.
