The Lightning-Haired Boy
Tommy had the most unusual hair in town. It wasn't just curly – it sparkled like tiny stars whenever storm clouds gathered. Other kids made fun of his wild, electric-blue streaks, but Tommy's grandmother whispered that his hair was special.
One sweltering July afternoon, the town's baseball championship was tied 3-3 in the final inning. Tommy sat in the dugout, his hair beginning to tingle and glow. Dark clouds rolled in faster than anyone had ever seen.
"We need one more run!" the coach shouted, but the sky opened with a crack of thunder so loud the umpire almost called the game.
That's when Tommy noticed something magical. As lightning flashed across the sky, his hair shimmered and seemed to pull the bolts toward him like a magnet. The lightning wasn't scary – it was dancing with him!
Tommy stepped up to the baseball plate, his hair glowing brighter with each lightning strike. The opposing team's pitcher looked nervous. Tommy wound up and swung as a particularly bright bolt of lightning streaked across the sky – CRACK!
The baseball sailed higher and farther than any ball in history, disappearing into the clouds with a sparkle that matched Tommy's hair. The crowd gasped as it suddenly rained down as dozens of glowing fireflies, lighting up the field like magic.
"Safe!" the umpire shouted, pointing to home plate where Tommy now stood, grinning. His team had won!
Afterward, Tommy's teammates gathered around, amazed. "Your hair is awesome!" they said. "Like a superhero's!"
Tommy touched his sparkling hair and smiled. Sometimes the things that make us different are exactly what make us extraordinary. And from that day on, whenever lightning flashed during a baseball game, everyone knew – Tommy was ready to make something magical happen.
