The Lightning Guardian's Gift

Lily loved exploring the beach after storms. Today, the waves had left something shiny half-buried in the sand. She dug carefully with both hands and pulled out a strange, smooth rectangle. It was an old iPhone, covered in seaweed.

She wiped it on her shirt. Suddenly, the screen flickered with blue light, even though it had no battery. A tiny sphinx popped onto the screen—just its face, with wise golden eyes and a mysterious smile.

"Greetings, young friend," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle waves. "I've been trapped in this device for one hundred years. A lightning bolt struck the cable that connected me to my home, and my essence was pulled inside."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're magic!"

"Indeed," the sphinx nodded. "And you've freed me by touching the screen with your curious heart." The screen glowed brighter, and water droplets floated up from the sand, swirling around them like tiny diamonds. "I can grant you one gift, but you must choose wisely."

Lily thought hard. She could wish for treasure, or flying, or endless candy. But she remembered how lonely she felt sometimes, moving to a new town where she hadn't made friends yet.

"I wish for courage to make friends," she said softly.

The sphinx's smile grew warm. "A wise choice." The screen flashed like lightning, and the phone dissolved into hundreds of blue butterflies that fluttered toward the playground where other children were playing. One butterfly landed on each child's shoulder, filling them with the same warm courage Lily had wished for.

That afternoon, Lily made three real friends. And sometimes, when she visited the beach, she could still see the sphinx's golden eyes in the sunset, reminding her that the bravest wish is the one that helps others too.
