The Lightning Goldfish Wish
Maya loved to sit on her palm tree-lined balcony and watch the storm clouds gather. Every evening, she would press her palm against the glass, feeling the rumble of thunder before it arrived.
One particularly stormy night, a tiny goldfish appeared at her window—swimming through the air as if it were water! Its scales shimmered like lightning bolts, flashing with every kick of its golden tail.
"I'm Finn!" the fish bubbled. "And I need your help!"
Maya opened the window wide. "How can I help a flying fish?"
"The Cloud Kingdom is running out of magic vitamins," Finn explained. "Without them, the stars won't shine bright enough to guide children's dreams to sleep. Will you come with me?"
Maya climbed onto Finn's back, and—whoosh!—they shot upward through the rain. Lightning danced around them like sparkling ribbons, illuminating a magnificent castle made entirely of fluffy white clouds.
Inside, worried cloud-fairies fluttered about. "The vitamin garden has stopped glowing!" cried the smallest fairy.
Maya knelt beside the drooping plants. Their leaves were dull and gray. "What do they need?" she asked.
"Laughter!" said Finn. "These vitamins only grow when children laugh."
Maya thought of her little brother's silly faces, of puppies sneezing, of mud pies and birthday surprises. She giggled. Then she laughed—a big, belly laugh that echoed through the cloud castle.
Slowly, the plants began to shimmer. Tiny fruits appeared, glowing with every color of the rainbow. The fairies cheered!
"Thank you, Maya!" said the head fairy, pressing a sparkling vitamin into her hand. "For your kindness, you'll always have sweet dreams."
Finn flew Maya home just as the storm broke. She climbed into bed, her palm still tingling with magic, and drifted into the most wonderful sleep she'd ever had.
From then on, whenever lightning flashed during a storm, Maya would smile, remembering her adventure with the lightning goldfish and the secret of the cloud vitamins—that laughter and kindness are the most powerful magic of all.
