The Lightning Goldfish's Magical Game
Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, she'd grab her favorite mitt and run to the park, hoping someone might want to play catch.
One rainy afternoon, as thunder rumbled overhead, Emma spotted something strange in the park pond. A tiny goldfish was swimming in frantic circles, even though the water was calm. But this wasn't just any goldfish — its scales shimmered like captured lightning, flashing bright gold and silver.
"Help!" squeaked the goldfish, popping its head above water. "I'm Lightning-Larry, and I'm stuck!"
Emma gasped. "You can talk?"
"Of course! I'm a magical pond keeper. But I dropped my emergency vitamin kit in the deep end, and I can't dive that deep without my lightning powers recharging."
Emma's eyes widened. "You have lightning powers?"
"Yes! I create lightning to power happy dreams for children. But right now, I'm too weak. Those vitamins would restore me, but I can't reach them."
Emma looked at her baseball glove, then at the pond. "I could help! But how do I reach the bottom?"
Lightning-Larry thought for a moment. "Your baseball! If you throw it just right, it could splash down and knock the vitamin kit toward the shallow end."
Emma pulled a shiny white baseball from her pocket. She took a deep breath, aimed carefully, and threw with all her might. The ball sailed through the rainy air and splashed exactly where Lightning-Larry pointed.
A small orange kit bobbed to the surface, and Larry did a happy flip. "You did it! That was the most amazing throw ever!"
He swallowed a tiny glowing vitamin, and suddenly his whole body crackled with gentle lightning. The sky's storm clouds seemed to dance in response.
"Because you helped me," Larry said, "I'll grant you one wish."
Emma thought carefully. "I wish... for a best friend who loves baseball as much as I do."
Larry smiled, his lightning scales twinkling. "Emma, you just became the friend who saved me. And look behind you."
A girl named Maya stood there, holding her own baseball mitt. "I saw your throw," Maya said. "It was incredible. Want to play together?"
Emma grinned so wide it almost hurt. As they played catch under the clearing sky, the magical goldfish watched, his lightning scales creating rainbow dreams for children everywhere — especially for two new best friends who had found each other on the most wonderful rainy afternoon.
