The Lightning Goldfish's Magic Game
Lily's goldfish, Glitter, was no ordinary fish. While most goldfish just swam in circles, Glitter actually glowed during storms.
One rainy afternoon, Lily sat by her fishbowl watching her best friend, Emma, across the street through the window. Emma was in her driveway, swinging her padel racket against a ball, practicing even though dark clouds filled the sky.
CRASH! Lightning flashed so bright it turned everything purple.
Lily gasped. Glitter's bowl was glowing—the fish was shimmering like a tiny, swimming star! Even more amazing, Glitter had grown to the size of a tennis ball and was magically swimming THROUGH THE GLASS of her bowl, leaving a trail of sparkles behind.
"Glitter! You're magic!" Lily whispered, her eyes wide with wonder.
The goldfish swam through the air and nudged Lily's phone, which sat on her desk. Suddenly, her iPhone screen lit up with swirling patterns of gold and silver. Words appeared: *Friend in danger. Follow the light.*
Lily looked out the window. Emma was still playing padel, but now huge raindrops were falling, and another lightning bolt was streaking toward her driveway!
"Emma!" Lily yelled, though she knew her friend couldn't hear through the storm.
Glitter swam faster, trailing magical light toward the door. Lily didn't think—she just followed. Out into the rain she ran, her phone clutched in one hand, watching the glowing fish lead the way.
Emma was backing away from a large tree branch that had cracked from the lightning strike. Her padel racket was on the ground, and she looked scared.
"Emma! Over here!" Lily called.
Glitter zipped around Emma's head, leaving a protective shimmering shield. More lightning crashed, but the magic fish's glow seemed to push it away.
The girls ran inside, with Glitter swimming behind them like a rainbow comet. Safe in Lily's room, they watched as Glitter slowly shrank back to normal size and swam happily in his bowl.
"You saved us," Emma said, amazed. "Your goldfish is magic!"
Lily smiled. "Glitter's not magic because he can fly through lightning storms. He's magic because he knew when a friend needed help."
From that day on, Lily and Emma always watched for storms together. And whenever Glitter started glowing, they knew someone somewhere needed a friend.
Because the best magic of all isn't lightning or flying fish—it's friendship.
