The Lightning Goldfish's Magic Fruit
Emma peered into her fishbowl. Bubbles the goldfish swam in circles, his orange scales gleaming like tiny suns. But today, something was different. Bubbles wasn't just swimming. He was dancing.
Outside, rain pattered against the window. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy. Then—FLASH!—lightning cracked across the sky, purple and brilliant.
Emma's room lit up. And for one magical second, so did Bubbles.
The little goldfish glowed golden-yellow, brighter than Emma's nightlight. Then—SNAP!—The old television cable that ran behind her fishbowl began to sparkle too.
"Bubbles?" Emma whispered.
Bubbles swam to the surface and—SPLASH!—leaped right out of the water! But he didn't flop on the floor like a regular fish. Instead, he swam through the air, leaving a trail of golden sparkles.
"Follow me!" a tiny voice said. Emma looked around. Her room was empty. Except for Bubbles, wiggling through the air toward the window.
Emma scrambled after him, out into the rainy backyard. Bubbles led her to the garden, where something amazing was happening.
Each time lightning flashed, the papaya tree at the back of the yard pulsed with light. Its large green fruits began to glow like magical lanterns.
Bubbles danced around the tree, and every time the lightning struck, he grew a little bigger. Soon, the goldfish was the size of a cat, floating gracefully through the rainy air.
"The storm gives me magic!" Bubbles said. "And the papayas keep it safe!"
Emma watched in wonder as Bubbles touched each glowing papaya with his nose. The fruits hummed with energy, storing the lightning's power like batteries.
"Why?" Emma asked, rain dripping from her hair.
Bubbles smiled (yes, smiled!) and said, "Tomorrow, the power will go out in the neighborhood. But the magic in these papayas will keep everyone's lights on. The storm brings problems, but we can turn them into gifts."
Emma helped Bubbles distribute the glowing papayas to neighbors' porches. That night, when the electricity failed, every house stayed bright and warm.
In the morning, Bubbles was back in his fishbowl, perfectly normal-sized. But Emma knew the truth. Her goldfish wasn't just a pet. He was a guardian who turned scary storms into gifts for everyone.
And now? Emma always checked the sky before storms. Because somewhere in the rain, a magical goldfish was dancing, turning lightning into kindness.
