The Lightning Goldfish's Game
Leo loved playing padel with his best friend Mia at the old courts near the pond. Every Saturday, they would hit the ball back and forth, laughing until their sides hurt.
One afternoon, as dark clouds gathered overhead, Leo spotted something strange in the pond. A tiny goldfish with scales that glowed like tiny lightning bolts swam right up to the edge.
"I'm Finn," the goldfish spoke in a voice like tinkling bells. "And I can grant you one wish—if you can catch me before the lightning strikes three times!"
Leo's eyes widened. "Really? Any wish?"
Finn nodded. "But you must be quick. Storm's coming!"
CRACK! The first lightning bolt flashed across the sky.
Leo started running around the pond's edge, chasing the magical fish. Finn zoomed through patches of cattails and over smooth stones. Leo's heart pounded as he splashed through puddles, his sneakers squeaking on the wet grass.
"Almost there!" Finn called, teasingly slowing down.
CRACK! The second lightning bolt struck closer.
Just then, Leo heard crying. Mia had fallen during their padel game and scraped her knee badly. She was sitting alone on the court bench, tears streaming down her face.
Leo stopped running. He looked at Finn, then at his friend.
"What about your wish?" Finn asked.
Leo smiled. "I wish for Mia to feel better."
Finn's scales glowed brighter than ever. The goldfish swam to Leo, touched his hand with a shimmering fin, and suddenly, Mia stopped crying. She smiled and waved.
"You made the right choice," Finn said. "Some wishes are bigger than magic."
CRACK! The third lightning bolt struck, but this time it was beautiful, not scary.
Leo learned that day that the best adventures aren't about catching magical creatures or making wishes come true. They're about being there for your friends, even when you're chasing lightning and goldfish.
