The Lightning Goldfish of Palm Pond
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the pond in the backyard. But one rainy afternoon, she spotted something extraordinary—a tiny goldfish swimming in circles, creating ripples that glowed like tiny stars.
"Hello there," Lily whispered, crouching beside the water. The goldfish swam closer, and suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed across the dark sky. To Lily's amazement, the fish's scales shimmered with the same electric blue light.
"Did you do that?" she gasped.
The goldfish jumped and nodded! Lily held out her palm, and the fish landed gently in her hand. In that moment, she felt a warm tingle, like holding a tiny piece of sunshine.
"I'm Finn," the fish spoke in a bubbly voice. "I'm the last lightning fish. I've been waiting for someone with a brave heart."
"Me? Brave?" Lily laughed. "I'm afraid of spiders!"
"True bravery isn't about not being scared," Finn explained, his scales flashing. "It's about doing what's right even when you ARE scared."
Suddenly, thunder rumbled. A big cat appeared at the pond's edge, eyes fixed on Finn. Lily's heart raced. The fish was her new friend—she had to protect him!
Without thinking, she cupped Finn in both palms and ran. Lightning cracked overhead as she reached her grandmother's porch safely.
"You saved me!" Finn cheered. "That was the bravest thing anyone has ever done!"
Grandmother smiled from the doorway. "I see you've found the pond's secret. Finn has chosen well."
That night, Lily learned that the smallest friends can be the most magical, and courage lives in everyone—even those afraid of spiders. And every time lightning flashed, she knew Finn was saying hello from his pond home.
