The Lightning Goldfish Friend

Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, she'd grab her glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting home runs under the bright sun. But today was different—the sky turned dark, and fat raindrops began to fall.

Emma sat under the shelter, watching the rain transform the baseball diamond into a sparkling lake. That's when she saw it—a tiny goldfish swimming through the air like it was water. Its scales shimmered like liquid lightning.

"I'm Finn," said the goldfish, though his mouth didn't move. "And you look lonely."

Emma blinked. "You can talk?"

"Only when lightning's near," Finn explained, doing a backflip through a raindrop. "I grant wishes to kids who need a friend. But my magic only works during storms."

Excitement bubbled in Emma's chest. "I wish for a friend who loves baseball as much as I do!"

Lightning crackled across the sky, and Finn's scales glowed brighter than a thousand stars. "Done! But remember," he warned, "magic friends appear when you least expect them."

The storm passed quickly. The sun returned, drying the field. Emma grabbed her bat, feeling hopeful. That's when she saw Maya—a new girl in the neighborhood—standing near home plate, holding her own glove.

"Want to play?" Maya asked with a shy smile.

Emma's heart danced. As they played until dusk, she understood what Finn meant. The best magic wasn't in wishes—it was in finding someone who shared your dreams.

That night, Emma looked out her window and saw a tiny flash of golden light swimming through the clouds. She waved, knowing her new friendship was the real magic all along.
